Passion is the Genesis of Genius

“Passion is the genesis of genius.”
Galileo
I recently came across this wonderful quote, which was written nearly four centuries ago by Galileo. I couldn’t agree with Galileo more. Certainly we must have professional skills and training to be successful in our careers. I also believe that my passions have helped me to be successful in my career path.
I know that for more than three decades I have been very fortunate to do what I love…from being a high school teacher to a nonprofit executive and now serving as a consultant to some really great nonprofit organizations. Ten days ago I was facilitating a strategy meeting for a client and as a part of their self-introductions, I asked each participant to describe their passions. My professional passions are rural America, agriculture, education and helping nonprofits.
Over the years, I’ve had many people say to me “you really believe in what you are doing.” Indeed, people can sense that I am passionate about my work, even if I don’t talk about it.
What are your professional passions? Do you really love what you’re doing?
